Stefan Herzberg

Stefan Andreas Herzberg (born May 13, 1956 in Pirmasens ) is a German diplomat . He has been the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Peru since 2018 .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1975 and completing basic military service in the Bundeswehr in 1976, Herzberg began studying law , which he completed in 1981 with the first state examination in law. After completing the legal clerkship between 1981 and 1984, he passed the second state examination in law. He then completed another postgraduate study of law at Hitotsubashi University until 1987 , which he completed with a master's degree.

career

In 1987, Herzberg completed the preparatory service for the higher foreign service and until 1989 initially worked at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn and then between 1989 and 1992 at the embassy in Japan . After he was 1992-1996 again using the Foreign Office, he was between 1996 and 1998 Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy in Bolivia . After his return to Germany, he was head of a working group in the Foreign Office from 1998 to 1999 and then Deputy Head of Division at the Foreign Office between 1999 and 2001 .

After working at the embassy in Washington from 2001 to 2003, Herzberg served as the head of the political department of the embassy in the People's Republic of China between 2003 and 2005 . He then headed a working group in the Foreign Office from 2005 to 2006 and then moved to the Federal Government's Press and Information Office , where he was Head of Division 302 (Foreign, Security and Development Policy) between 2006 and 2010. He was then chargé d'affaires at the embassy in Japan from 2011 to 2015.

In July 2015, Herzberg succeeded Walter Johannes Lindner , who in turn became ambassador to South Africa , the new ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Venezuela . Herzberg became ambassador to Peru in October 2018
