Stefan Kuryłowicz

Stefan Kuryłowicz (born March 25, 1949 in Warsaw ; † June 6, 2011 near Santander , Spain) was one of the most important Polish architects after 1989. He particularly shaped the cityscape of Warsaw. Kuryłowicz founded the architecture studio Kuryłowicz & Associates .

In 1972 he graduated from the Warsaw University of Technology with a degree in architecture , where he also received his doctorate, qualified as a professor and was a university lecturer. He designed modern commercial buildings made of steel and glass that permanently changed the skyline of Warsaw. In the early 2000s, he also built several apartment blocks. Among other things, Kuryłowicz was an advisor to the Lord Mayor of Warsaw, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz .

Kurylowicz died on June 6, 2011, along with three Polish citizens, in a plane crash in Asturias. He left behind his wife and two sons.
