Stefan Ochaba (* 1904 in Brno , Austria-Hungary , † 1948 in Vienna , Austria ) was an Austrian church musician , choir director and composer .

Life

From 1918 Ochaba studied at the Department of Church Music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Klosterneuburg under Max Springer , Franz Moißl , Vinzenz Goller and Andreas Weißenbäck . He went to Panschowa in 1924 and directed the choir of the Catholic Church in Werschetz from 1926 to 1938 . Here he published the hymn book in 1930 . Collection of spiritual folk chants for use in holy worship and an appendix to it in 1936.

In 1938 he returned to Vienna as part of the repatriation of German citizens living abroad, leaving his musical legacy in Pancsova and Werschetz. Because of the outbreak of World War II, he was unable to make up for it, and he was largely destroyed by Titov's partisans. Ochaba then taught music at secondary schools in Vienna and worked as a choir director and organist at the Servitenkirche . In 1948 he died of complications from pneumonia. Only a few of his numerous compositions have survived, including Mr, stay with us , our father , Hail, Maria , a German mass , a Marian mass , evening on the heath , Salve Regina , funeral choirs and several songs.
