Stefan Schwab (born May 29, 1987 in Hamburg ) is a German athlete .

career

Schwab, who started for TSV in Schwarzenbek , began his sporting career in 1998. His first national successes came in 2005 when he won the bronze medal over 100 meters at the German A youth championships. Here Schwab also improved the 39-year-old Schleswig-Holstein state record over 100 meters to 10.61 s.

Schwab has been a member of the federal short sprint squad since 2005. In 2006 Schwab was nominated by the German Athletics Association for the U20 indoor competition against France and Italy in Ancona. So he was allowed to compete in the national team for Germany for the first time and finished second. In the summer season he took third place over 100 meters at the German Junior Championships. He also took part in the U20 World Championships in Beijing (China) for Germany as a member of the national team.

In 2007 Schwab took sixth place at the German Championships in Erfurt over 100 meters. At the German Junior Championships, he secured third place over 100 and 200 meters.

In the 2008 indoor season, Schwab took fifth place in the German men's championships in a new state record time for Schleswig-Holstein of 6.69 seconds.

In the following summer season Schwab improved from competition to competition. Therefore, he was appointed by the German Athletics Association in the national team for the U23 international match against Poland over 100 meters and for the relay. He won the 100 meters in 10.31 s and was also able to run to victory in the 4 x 100 meter relay in 39.97 s.

At the German men's championships in Nuremberg , Stefan Schwab was German runner-up in 10.29 s behind Tobias Unger . At the German Junior Championships in Recklinghausen three weeks later, Schwab secured his first German championship title over 100 meters in 10.33 seconds.

In the winter of 2009 Stefan Schwab surprised with the fulfillment of the required indoor European championship norm of 6.66 s, he ran on January 24th in Hamburg for 6.65 s. A month later Schwab won his first German championship title among adults at the German Indoor Championships in Leipzig. He improved his best performance to 6.59 s and thus set a new Schleswig-Holstein state record. At the subsequent European Indoor Championships in Turin, he reached the semifinals. On June 7, 2009, under favorable conditions and a tailwind of 1.8 m / s, he was able to improve his best time to 10.19 s and thus fulfilled the qualification standard for the World Championships in Berlin, in which he also took part.

In the 2010 indoor season, Stefan Schwab was again German runner-up. In the following years he achieved a few placements among the top eight at German championships, but several injuries prevented the repetition of top performances. In September 2014, Schwab tore his right Achilles tendon during a competition.

In total, Schwab was able to win 32 national championship titles and 8 North German championship titles.
