Stefania Toczyska
Stefania Toczyska , née Stefanie Krzywińska (born February 19, 1943 in Grudziądz ) is a Polish opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).
Life
Toczyska studied at the Gdansk Conservatory and made her debut at the Baltic State Opera in 1973 in the role of Carmen . After winning prizes in various competitions, her international career began in 1977 with Amneris in Aida in Basel and her debut as Preziosilla in La forza del destino at the Vienna State Opera the next year. Toczyska sang in the role of Laura Adorno in La Gioconda , which debuted in San Francisco in 1985, in Khovanshchina as Marfa ( Metropolitan Opera debut 1987), Pauline (Queen of Spades), Rosina, Carmen, Azucena and Amneris, which she 1983 at the Royal Opera House and 1984 at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona . She also appears as a concert singer, especially in the Verdi Requiem , and has sung a selection of Polish music from Chopin to Penderecki. In the summer of 2015 Stefania Toczyska performed as Mama Lucia in Pietro Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana at the Salzburg Festival .
