Stefano Patuanelli (born June 8, 1974 in Trieste ) is an Italian politician and civil engineer.

Patuanelli, who belongs to the five-star movement , has been the Italian Minister of Economic Affairs in the Conte II cabinet since September 5, 2019 .

Life

After attending the Oberdan natural science high school in Trieste, Patuanelli studied civil engineering at the University of Trieste , which he successfully completed in 2003. He has been a civil engineer since 2004 and freelance since 2005. Between 2009 and 2011 he worked as a construction consultant for the Trieste Provincial Administration .

Patuanelli made his first political experiences in 2005 when he founded the Trieste branch of the Beppe Grillo Friends Group , the forerunner of Movimento 5 Stelle. After leading the local chapter for several years, he was appointed spokesman for the Five Star Movement in Trieste in 2011. As a result, he gave up his advisory work for the province in order to avoid any conflicts of interest. From 2011 to 2016 he was a member of the Trieste City Council. In the parliamentary elections in March 2018 , he successfully ran for the Senate for the five-star movement in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region .

After his election as senator, Luigi Di Maio appointed him parliamentary group leader of the five-star movement in the Senate. In September 2019, Pantuanelli was appointed Minister of Economics in the Conte II cabinet after the coalition of the Five-Star Movement and Lega broke up . As a result, he gave up the chairmanship of the Senate.

Pantuelli is married and has three children.
