Steffen Sünkel

Steffen Sünkel (* 1981 in Tübingen ) is a German dramaturge .

Life

Sünkel studied modern German literature and political science at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and at the Humboldt University in Berlin . During his studies, he directed the international media and theater festival Neuropolis in Berlin. In 2004 he worked as a dramaturgy assistant at the Stuttgart State Theater under artistic director Friedrich Schirmer, where he realized first world premieres. At the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art he was in charge of the dramaturgical production of Robert Borgmann's diploma at the bat studio theater . From 2007 to 2011, Sünkel worked initially as a dramaturge and from 2011 as a senior dramaturge at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg.

The focus of his dramaturgical work is the promotion and collaboration of and with contemporary authors, visual artists and musicians.

In collaboration with Christoph Twickel, Florian Vogel and Jack F. Kurfess, Sünkel was in charge of the editorial work for the theater newspaper “Hawaii - Staged Realities”. He also designed various cross-media events in Hamburg and Berlin, u. a. the series “Haifischbar / Neue Haimat”, a mixture of performance, music, life acts and urban political interventions, which in the end always ended with dancing. In addition, organization and establishment of numerous readings and the awarding of the Kleist Prize , most recently to Marcel Beyer and Monika Rinck . Since 2013 Sünkel has been engaged as a dramaturge for Claus Peymann at the Berliner Ensemble .

He works closely with the film and theater director Leander Haußmann . He is also a lecturer and speaker for theater history and dramaturgy at universities, a. a. New York University , Freie Universität Berlin , and gives lectures on contemporary German theater.

Steffen Sünkel lives with his family in Berlin.
