Steffen Unger

Steffen Unger (born July 20, 1969 in Worms ) has been the mayor of the Alzey-Land community since 2004 .

Life

Steffen Unger grew up with two brothers and a sister on his parents' farm. He still lives today with his wife and son in his hometown Esselborn .

Unger graduated in 1991 from the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in Mayen with a degree in administrative management (FH). He then became a registrar in the Alzey city administration. In 1998 he switched to the central department of the Alzey-Land municipal administration and in 2001 became the head of the Office for Order and Social Affairs.

Political offices

On November 7, 2004, Steffen Unger, as a non-party joint candidate of the Free Voters' Group of the Verbandsgemeinde Alzey-Land eV and the CDU , with 62.39% of the vote, was able to prevail against his two competitors (SPD and another non-party candidate) and was elected mayor of the Alzey-Land community for eight years. On March 11, 2012, as a joint candidate of the CDU and FWG, with the support of the FDP, he won the election with 68.2% of the vote, against the SPD candidate.

In addition to this full-time activity, he is the head of the waste water disposal association in Rheinhessen (ZAR), chairman of the Alzey-Worms district group of the Rhineland-Palatinate municipal and urban association and elected board member of IG Petersberg , which was founded on his initiative.

Volunteering

In his youth he was a member of the rural youth group Kettenheimer Grund and the Christian Association of Young People . At the age of 25 he completed his training as a lecturer in the Protestant Church and is therefore authorized to hold services. In his free time he plays the tuba in the trombone choir .

He has been a member of the Technical Relief Organization (THW) since 1992 and has been in charge of the THW in Alzey for some time. He is also committed to the technical relief organization at the state level and has been a board member of the state aid association since 2005. Since 2015 he has been the first chairman of the antiquities association for Alzey and the surrounding area.

Since June 2016 Unger has been the first chairman of the German Red Cross Local Association Alzey-Land e. V.
