The Steinbach is a river in the Göstlinger Alps .

The Steinbach arises from the union of the Windischbach with the Wandeckbach not far from the Steinbach Castle . It is the left tributary of the Ybbs , into which it flows just before Göstling on the Ybbs . About halfway between the Steinbach Castle and the confluence with the Ybbs the creek flows through a protected natural monument gorge the need (or distress ). The road through the Steinbachtal is in this section in a tunnel.

The second Viennese spring water pipeline is also located in its valley . With the approval of Baron Albert Salomon Anselm von Rothschild , a provisional hydropower plant was built on the Steinbach, which supplied the electrical power for the drilling machines of Siemens & Halske AG used in tunnel construction . During the construction of the tunnel through the Göstlinger Alpe, an electric field train with a gauge of 750 millimeters was used to transport building materials and remove overburden .
