Occurrence

The species is found across Europe and Asia east to the Pacific , but is absent in the far north and parts of the Mediterranean . It lives in moss-covered and lichen-covered rock corridors, on chalky and sandy areas and steep, rocky grasslands , but also in bogs , forest meadows and on heaths . The stone lichen bear requires less heat than Setina roscida and is normally found in the plains up to medium altitudes, but it can also be found in the limestone Alps up to about 2,000 meters above sea level .

Way of life

The nocturnal moths can also be scared off during the day, especially in the late afternoon. They fly from June to August. The caterpillars live from August to June. They pupate under flat stones on the ground and overwinter before hatching in spring.
