Steinhof (Hernstein municipality)

Steinhof is a cadastral municipality in the market town of Hernstein in Lower Austria.

The Steinhof was originally a free-standing homestead , formerly part of Melk Abbey, northwest of Grillenberg . The area became more populated with the rise of Berndorf . The northern part of Steinhof outside the homestead was therefore separated from Grillenberg by means of a state law on April 26, 1923 and, together with Veitsau, formed as Berndorf IV zu Berndorf. The farm and the Rotte Steinhof itself remained as well as the unpopulated parts of the cadastral community Veitsau near Grillenberg, which later became part of the market town of Hernstein .

Vineyards were planted on the northern slopes, and meadows and fields are linked to them and stretch to the swampy soils in the south. The Hohlur , a ruin-like rock section with a small cave, can be reached from Steinhof in about an hour.
