Josef Fux
Josef Fux (born December 2, 1841 in Steinhof , † March 30, 1904 in Vienna ) was an Austrian genre painter and set designer.
Fux studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under Christian Ruben from 1856 to 1862 , but soon followed the tradition of Hans Makart and Jan Matejko in style and execution , for example in the history painting Cardinal Khlesl . The painting was acquired on January 15, 1872 through the intermediary of the Upper Austrian Art Association for the Landesgalerie in Linz at half the catalog price. His gift of color and decoration also benefited him with the pageant arrangements that he organized with Hans Makart. In 1879 he became head of the set department in the Vienna Hofburgtheater , for which he designed the main curtain with Charlotte Wolter as the tragic muse and Katharina Schratt as the cheerful muse.
