The Styrian cabbage rose ( Nigritella stiriaca ) is a species of orchid that is endemic to the Salzkammergut and the Graz highlands . It is also considered by some authors to be a subspecies of the red cabbage rose and is then called Nigritella rubra subsp. stiriaca (calc.) H.Baumann & R.Lorenz .

The inflorescence is cylindrical and a little to significantly longer than wide. The lip becomes 5.5 to 6.5 millimeters long and 3.5 to 4 millimeters wide. 1.5 to 3 millimeters above the ground it is narrowed in the shape of a saddle. The lateral sepals are triangular-ovate and slightly wider than the middle, but significantly wider than the lateral petals . The spur is 1 to 1.3 millimeters long. Reproduction is asexual.

The flowering period extends from June to August.

Distribution and location

This species is endemic in the Salzkammergut and the Grazer Bergland . They are found on alpine limestone grasslands at altitudes between 1,800 and 2,000 meters in the north-eastern limestone Alps .
