The Stella Maris is a passenger ship operated by the Rursee-Schifffahrt KG shipping company and is used for scheduled, excursion and special trips on the Rurstausee , also known as the Rursee. Stella maris means star of the sea.

history

The ship was built by Schiffswerft Schmidt GmbH in Oberwinter , a district of the city of Remagen in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Ahrweiler , and put into service on the Rursee in 1979.

The ship

The Stella Maris is 37.65 meters long, 7.10 meters wide and has a draft of 98 centimeters. The ship is approved for 490 passengers. You have three decks at your disposal. It has two diesel engines with an output of 356 kilowatts each, each of which drives a Schottel rudder propeller (SRP) . The drive is designed redundantly so that the ship can still be maneuvered easily with the second if one machine fails. One of the two SRPs is controlled electrically / hydraulically, the other mechanically via a control chain. So the ship is still maneuverable even if the electrical system fails. An electric bow thruster improves maneuverability.

A galley, a counter area and a service team for passenger care in the restaurant are available for catering to the passengers. The Stella Maris was completely renovated in 1990. Access to the ship is usually at ground level and the toilets are barrier-free .
