The Aachen is a passenger ship operated by the Rursee-Schifffahrt KG shipping company , which is used for scheduled, excursion and special trips on the Rurstausee , also known as the Rursee. The ship was named after the city of Aachen .

history

The ship was built at Schiffswerft Schmidt GmbH in Oberwinter , a district of the city of Remagen in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Ahrweiler , and put into service on the Rursee in 1975.

The ship

The Aachen is the somewhat smaller of the two ships used on the Rursee. It is 37.40 meters long, 6.40 meters wide and has a draft of 80 centimeters. The ship is approved for 472 passengers. You have three decks at your disposal. The Aachen has two MAN diesel engines with an output of 220 kW, each having a Z-Drive (SRP) drive. The drive is designed redundantly so that the ship can still be maneuvered easily with the second if one machine fails. One of the two SRPs is controlled electrically / hydraulically, the other mechanically via a control chain. So the ship is still maneuverable even if the electrical system fails. An electric bow thruster improves maneuverability. A Deutz diesel engine with approx. 120KW has been retrofitted to generate electricity for the 220V on-board network .

A galley, a counter area and a service team for passenger care in the restaurant are available for catering to the passengers.
