Sten Rudholm

Sten Rudholm (born April 27, 1918 in Karlstad , Värmland , † November 29, 2008 ) was a Swedish Chancellor of Justice and Reichsmarschall . He was a member of the Swedish Academy , an honorary doctorate in justice from Stockholm University , and the last "civil" Swede to receive the Royal Order of Seraphines .

Judging career

Rudholm became jur. kand. (Graduated in law) from Stockholm University. In 1954 he became an assessor at the Hovrätt , the second highest judicial authority in Sweden, before he was appointed to the Hovratsrat in 1961 and President of the Svea Hovrats in 1967. He held this post until 1983.

Civil servant career

From 1955 to 1961 Rudholm was head of the law department in the Ministry of Justice and from 1959 to 1963 an expert in discussions about a new constitution. From 1962 to 1967 Rudholm was finally Chancellor of Justice.

Other work

Rudholm was the chairman of the Swedish General Art Association from 1974 to 1983. On February 10, 1977 he was elected to the Swedish Academy and took up chair No. 1 on December 20 of the same year, on which Sture Petrén had previously sat. In 1983 Rudholm was finally appointed Reichsmarschall and held this office until 1986.
