Stenocereus martinezii grows tree-shaped with numerous branched shoots and reaches heights of 5 to 7 meters. A trunk up to 1 meter high with a diameter of up to 25 centimeters is formed. The more or less cylindrical shoots have a diameter of 8 to 20 centimeters. There are ten to twelve ribs on which there are conspicuous dark reddish-brown areoles . The single, greyish to black central spine - rarely up to three central spines are present - is horizontally protruding to a little sideways. It is 2 to 5 inches long. The spherical to egg-shaped, green fruits reach a diameter of 3 to 4.5 centimeters. As they ripen, they become increasingly red. The pulp is red.
