Stenocereus standleyi is a species of the genus Stenocereus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). A Spanish common name is "Pitahaya Marismeña".
description
Stenocereus standleyi usually grows spread out to slightly tree-shaped with numerous branched shoots and reaches heights of 2 to 4 meters. Usually no clear trunk is formed. The light green shoots have a diameter of up to 8 centimeters. There are usually four broad, blunt ribs that are notched. The four to six initially reddish central spines turn gray with age and are 2 to 2.5 centimeters long. The ten to 16 radial spines are 10 to 15 millimeters long. They too turn gray with age.
The narrow, bell-shaped, white flowers open at night and are 6 to 8 inches long. The egg-shaped, reddish fruits reach a diameter of 3 to 4 centimeters. They are covered with arched areoles .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Stenocereus standleyi is common in the Mexican states of Colima , Guerrero , Jalisco , Michoacán , Nayarit and Sinaloa . It was first described as Lemaireocereus standleyi in 1927 by Jesús González Ortega . Franz Buxbaum placed the species in the genus Stenocereus in 1961 .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
