Stepan Karapetowitsch Alawerdjan ( Armenian Ստեփան Ալավերդյան Կարապետի ; Russian Степан Карапетович Алавердян ; * 1888 in Kutaisi ; † August 14, 1920 in Yerevan ) was an Armenian revolutionary . He was an active participant in the struggle for Soviet power in Armenia .

Life

Alaverdjan was born into the family of an official . He joined the RSDLP in 1904 . He worked for the party in Moscow , Tbilisi , Kutaisi and Yerevan. In 1915 he graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the Moscow Trade Institute . His thesis dealt with the housing conditions in pre-revolutionary Moscow. In 1917 Alawerdjan was chairman of the Bolshevik faction in the city soviet of Sarighamish (now Turkey ).

In September 1919 he was elected to the governing body of the communist organizations in Armenia, the Armenian Committee (Armenkom) of the RKP (B) . In 1920 he was one of the leaders of the May uprising against the Dashnaks and the British intervention forces. Alaverdjan was captured and shot by Dashnaks in Yerevan.
