Stephan Athanas

Stephan Athanas (born June 17, 1960 in Muri AG ) is a Swiss musician ( electric bass , composition ).

Live and act

Athanas learned bass from 1976 with Bobby Burri and Fernando Saunders. From 1980 he completed a music degree at the Lucerne Jazz School and the Swiss Jazz School in Bern. Between 1981 and 1984 he obtained the school music diploma at the Academy for School and Church Music in Lucerne. From 1994 he studied film music at Berklee College of Music . From 1996 he deepened his knowledge of composition with composers such as Dieter Schnebel , Christoph Baumann and Dieter Ammann .

He first appeared as the bassist of the Swiss Drums Orchestra with Alex Bally , Bruno Spoerri , Jojo Mayer and Reto Weber . From 1982 he was a member of the funk jazz group Splash and the zappaesque Gurksau lobby , with which he also presented records. From 1993 he played Modern Creative with Up 2 Date . He used stays abroad for multinational music projects. AtHAnas patTON vidAL emerged from them in 1995 and the ContempArabic Jazz Ensemble in 1997 , with whom he performed internationally and released four albums.

Athanas writes music for theater, film, chamber orchestras as well as various jazz ensembles and also deals with sound installations . He works at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland as a lecturer for media art, electronic music , Max / MSP , sound design and as head of the FH big band.
