Rossmarkaeum ( Italian : Rosemarkie ) is a titular bishopric of the Roman Catholic Church . It has existed since 1974.

It goes back to the Diocese of Ross which roughly comprised the area of ​​the counties Ross-shire and Cromartyshire in the Scottish Highlands . The seat of the diocese was probably originally in Rosemarkie , but from the 13th century at the latest in Fortrose , both located on the Black Isle . This diocese was called Rosemarkie in the 12th century , later as the Diocese of Ross . It belonged to the ecclesiastical province of Saint Andrews . The original diocese was first dissolved in 1638 as a result of the Scottish Reformation . Restored under the umbrella of the Church of Scotland in 1661, its existence finally ended in 1689.
