Stephan Bethlen ( von Iktar ), Hungarian Bethlen István (* 1582 place unknown; † January 10, 1648 in Ecsed , buried in Weißenburg , Hungarian Gyulafehérvár , Romanian Alba Iulia ) was Prince of September 28, 1630 to November 26, 1630 Transylvania .

Transylvania

Stephan Bethlen was the two years younger brother of Gabriel Bethlen and son of Druzsina Lázár and Farkas Bethlen .

According to tradition, Bethlen was rather poorly educated. Nevertheless, one saw in him a successor who should continue the policy of his brother, the prince. Gabriel Bethlen did everything in his power to equip and strengthen his younger brother with privileges. So he got the castle of Khust . He became voivode for the life of Hunyad ( iron market , today Hunedoara district ) and owner of the Hunedoara castle (today part of Romania ) and had property in the Marmarosch (today partly in Romania and partly in Ukraine ).

After the death of his brother Stephan Bethlen tried on January 25, 1630 in Gyulafehérvár to take over the reign. On September 28, 1630 he was raised in Kolozsvár to the prince of Transylvania, but resigned after only 60 days reign on November 26, 1630 in Segesvár . On December 1, 1630, Georg I. Rákóczis was elected by the Transylvanian state parliament.
