Stephan Brenninkmeijer (born June 27, 1964 in Doorwerth ) is an award-winning Dutch film director , film editor , screenwriter and film producer .

life and career

Brenninkmeijer was born and raised in Doorwerth Castle in the Netherlands. At the age of eight he moved to Apeldoorn with his family . From 1988 to 1992 he studied at the Dutch Film Academy in Amsterdam .

Although his goal was to direct feature films, he started out with editing . His professional career began in 1992 by working as an editor for television series and films . He has worked with directors such as Oscar winner Mike van Diem . From 1994 he directed several television series. In 2000 he directed The Silence of the Soul , which won the Golden Crown Award at the ICVM Festival in Atlanta, USA . In the same year he co-directed the television series Westenwind , which won the Dutch Golden Globe equivalent .

In 2002 he produced his first feature film Swingers - An Immoral Weekend , in which he also acted as director and writer. Swingers is a low budget film that was shown in theaters in the Benelux countries and sold internationally. In 2011 he was the director, producer and writer of Caged .

In 2013 he was director, producer and author of Lotgenoten (Fate Comrades ). The film was part of the Entertainment Experience , a film project with user-generated content under the direction of director Paul Verhoeven . The project won the International Digital Emmy Award in 2013 .
