Stephan Letter

Stephan Letter (born September 17, 1978 in Herdecke ) is a German serial killer . As a nurse he killed 29 patients and became known as the "Angel of Death of Sonthofen".

Prior to his work at the Sonthofen Clinic , Letter completed training as a paramedic in the DRK district association in Ludwigsburg from August 1998 to July 1999 as part of his community service . He then completed his training as a nurse at the Ludwigsburg Clinic. On January 6, 2003, Letter started working as a nurse at the Sonthofen Clinic in Bavaria. Between February 2, 2003 and July 10, 2004, he killed 29 patients between the ages of 40 and 95 years by lethal injection .

On July 29, 2004, Letter was arrested for drug theft and unexplained death. After extensive confessions and exhumations , on September 15, 2005 , the Kempten public prosecutor brought charges of murder in 16 cases, manslaughter in 12 cases, killing on request in one case, as well as attempted manslaughter once, two cases of dangerous bodily harm and theft. On February 7, 2006, the Kempten Regional Court opened the trial . On November 20, 2006, Letter was sentenced to life in prison . Judge Harry Calculator determined the particular gravity of the guilt . In addition, the court banned the then 28-year-old with a lifelong professional ban.

He is serving his sentence in Straubing correctional facility .
