Stephan Ory

Stephan Ory (* 1958 in Saarbrücken ) is a German lawyer specializing in media law, managing director of the Private Broadcasting Working Group (APR), chairman of the media council of the Saarland state media authority, chairman of the Association of German IT Court Days , honorary professor of the law faculty of Saarland University and Director at the Institute for European Media Law (EMR) in Saarbrücken / Brussels .

biography

Ory studied law at the Saarland University from 1978 to 1983 . He passed the First State Examination in 1983 and the Second State Examination in 1986. At the same time, from 1983 to 1985, Ory took on functions in the cable communication institute in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, most recently he was in charge of the processing department. In 1986 he received his doctorate from the Faculty of Law and Economics at Saarland University on the subject of "Freedom of Mass Communication".

Ory then took over activities as managing director at Teleclub GmbH , Munich. From 1988 to 1990 he worked as head of the new media department at the Bundesverband Deutscher Zeitungsverleger e. V. (BDZV ) in Bonn.

Ory has been admitted to the bar since 1988, first at the regional court in Bonn , and since 1990 in Saarbrücken .

Ory has been managing director of the Private Broadcasting Association (APR) since 1990 and has been a member of the media council of the Saarland State Media Authority (LMS) since 2000. In 2005 he was appointed chairman of the media council.

Ory is a founding member of the Institute for European Media Law eV (EMR) in Saarbrücken / Brussels. From 2003 to 2011 he was a member of the board there. In 2011 he became Chairman of the Board of Management and took on the role of Scientific Director until June 2014. Since July 2014 he has been director of the EMR.

Ory has also been teaching at Saarland University since 2001 . In 2009, he was appointed honorary professor for broadcasting and copyright law by Saarland University. In September 2014, Ory became chairman of the board of the German EDP court assembly .
