Stephan Russ-Mohl
Stephan Ruß-Mohl (born May 23, 1950 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German media scientist .
Life
From 1985 to 2001 Stephan Ruß-Mohl was a journalism professor at the Free University of Berlin , where he was responsible for the further training course for journalists and the journalists' college.
Since 2002 he has been Professor of Communication Science at the University of Lugano . He is also head of the European Journalism Observatory , which monitors trends in the media industry and conducts cross-country journalism research. Among other things, he works as a journalist for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung .
Ruß-Mohl completed research stays at the University of Wisconsin – Madison (1989), the European University Institute in Florence (1992) and at Stanford University in California (1995, 1999 and 2008).
His research fields are quality assurance and quality management in journalism, editorial management, comparative journalism research (in particular: Germany , USA , Switzerland , Italy ), media journalism and public relations for media companies as well as business reporting.
He wrote books on science journalism and an introduction to journalism. He also designed an economic approach to illuminate the interests of journalists.
In the rankings of Transparency International and Reporters sans frontières , Ruß-Mohl recognizes a connection between freedom of the press and corruption.
“According to the two rankings, a high degree of freedom of the press correlates impressively with a low susceptibility to corruption. This suggests that freedom of the press helps curb corruption in the long term. "
