Stephen E. Kesler

Stephen Edward Kesler , also Steve Kessler, (born October 5, 1940 in Washington, DC ) is an American geologist, geochemist and mineralogist and professor at the University of Michigan .

Kesler graduated from the University of North Carolina with a bachelor's degree in 1962 and received a PhD in geology from Stanford University in 1966 . He was then Assistant Professor at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge , from 1970 Assistant Professor and 1971 Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and from 1977 Professor of Geology at the University of Michigan.

In 1975/76 he was a visiting scientist at the Consejo del Recursos Minerales in Mexico.

In 2006 he received the Penrose Gold Medal from the Society of Economic Geologists . In 1998/99 he was President of the Society of Economic Geologists. He is a fellow of the Geological Society of America .

He deals with tectonic, petrological and geochemical questions of ore formation, geochemistry of the exploration of ore deposits and geology of the Caribbean, Central America and Mexico. He also deals with environmental issues and the geochemistry of mineral recovery and use.

He was co-editor of Economic Geology and J. Geochem. Exploration.
