He received his PhD in 1984 with a study of runes and magic for Ph.D. In addition to scientific work, Flowers also published several books under the pseudonym Edred Thorsson . For English by Alain de Benoist's neuheidnischem work On being a Pagan (dt. Heide His ) he wrote the foreword. In 1980 Flowers founded the esoteric rune school Rune-Gild with the aim of reviving and promoting runic magic with the runes of the older rune series .

Flowers is considered the thought leader of the left hand path . In the 1980s Stephen Flowers took over the leadership of the neo-satanist association Temple of Set from Michael Aquino , which also maintains regional groups in Germany and is categorically assigned to gnostic- occult Satanism , which interprets the devil as a redeemer figure.

He became a supporter of Germanic neo-paganism through a book on runic magic from the Fraternitas Saturni . Flowers is often criticized for its relationships with occult organizations.
