Stephen Lawhead

Stephen Robert Lawhead (born July 2, 1950 in Kearney , Nebraska ) is an American writer who is particularly known for historical novels, but also for works in the fields of fantasy and science fiction .

Life

Lawhead was on July 2, 1950 as a son of Robert Eugene and Lois Lawhead Rowena Bissell Lawhead at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney ( Nebraska born). He graduated from Kearney High in 1968 and then attended Kearney State College. In 1969 he wrote a weekly humorous column for this college and was a frequent contributor to poetry meetings. Lawhead met Alice Slaikeu in 1971 and married her a year later. In 1973 he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and enrolled in the Northern Baptist Theological Seminary for the following winter semester . In 1976 he was editorial assistant for a campus magazine.

Since 1981 Lawhead has been working full-time as an author of historical fantasy, but also science fiction novels such as the two-volume Empyrion saga . Most of his works have a strong connection to the Christian faith or pre-Christian, mostly Celtic myths. In 1986 he moved to Oxford to do research for his Pendragon Saga ( Pendragon Cycle ), a free rewrite of the Arthurian legend . In the course of this research his interest in the Celtic culture, especially the "Celtic" early Christianity, increased. In 1987 he left the United Kingdom , but returned for his trilogy The Song of Albion ( The Song of Albion ) back. The three-part Rabenkönig saga ( The King Raven Trilogy ) is based on the legend of Robin Hood .

The scale of five parts novel The shimmering Rich ( The Bright Empires ), describes the adventures of Kit Livingstone and his friends, the so-called with ley lines, the connections between different locations in space and time represent, can travel.

The Eirlandia series deals with the story of the young Celt Conor.

Lawhead and his wife have lived in Mittersill , Austria, with their sons Drake and Ross, since 2002 .
