Stephen Nathaniel Frick (born September 30, 1964 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is a retired American astronaut .
Training and activity as a pilot
Stephen Frick received a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1986 and a master's degree in aerospace engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1994 .
After completing his naval aviation training in spring 1988, he completed a course on the F / A-18 Hornet . He was then sent with a unit to participate in the second Gulf War , where he flew 26 combat missions against Iraq from aboard the USS Saratoga .
Astronaut activity
In 1996, Frick was selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA and then trained as a shuttle pilot.
STS-110
On his first mission on April 8, 2002, he flew into space as a pilot of the space shuttle Atlantis . The mission task was to bring the grid element S0 to the International Space Station (ISS) and assemble it. In addition, the Mobile Transporter, which is part of the Mobile Servicing System , was brought to the ISS. A total of four spacecraft missions were carried out while the Atlantis was connected to the ISS.
STS-122
On February 7, 2008, Frick set out again for the ISS as commander of the STS-122 mission with the space shuttle Atlantis. The main payload was the European Columbus space laboratory . The landing took place on February 20, 2008.
