Stephen Sokoloff

Stephen Sokoloff (born January 21, 1943 in Detroit , USA ) is an American writer , journalist , translator and biologist living in Austria .

Life

After studying biology in the USA and Germany and a few years in research , Sokoloff has lived and worked in Linz since 1979 as the author of numerous cultural, nature and travel guides . He is also active as a satirist , university lecturer and translator . He is also known for his over 800 journalistic articles on culture , nature , medicine and science . He publishes almost exclusively in German.

In his culture and nature guides, he tries to explain natural history in addition to the descriptions of the hiking routes , but also to go into more detail about the cultural sights.

His satires, which he has published in three volumes so far ("The Megabyte Christ", "Stephens Nightmares", "Gentle & Razor Sharp"), have strong autobiographical traits and are socially critical . He has been a member of the international PEN Club since 2013 .

Stephen Sokoloff is a consultant to the Province of Upper Austria for environmental issues, winner of the Environment Prize of the City of Linz (1998) and the Upper Austrian State Prize for Environment and Nature (2008).
