Stethojulis is a genus of small Junker Wrasse (Julidinae). All ten species live in the tropical areas of the Indo-Pacific .

features

Stethojulis species have a slender, torpedo-shaped body. They show a pronounced gender dimorphism , i. i.e., females and males look completely different. The males usually have a brightly colored, green, blue and yellow basic color and three to four narrow, light blue longitudinal stripes that extend from the head to the base of the tail. The females have a pattern of small spots. Stethojulis species grow to be 11 to 14 centimeters long.

behavior

The fish live in large groups in which the females are usually in the majority. In contrast to other wrasse, the males are not territorial. They also spawn in large schools. Stethojulis species live at depths of up to fifteen meters, where they live on bottom-dwelling invertebrates .

species

The animals are not suitable for keeping in an aquarium because of their restless, hectic way of life .
