Stetsasonic was an American hip hop group formed in Brooklyn in 1981 . You are known as one of the first hip hop crews to use live musicians. Their positive lyrics and their earlier use of jazz - samples made them important forerunners of alternative hip hop and jazz rap .

The six members Prince Paul , Wise , DBC, Daddy O , Delite and Frukwan initially formed as the Stetson Brothers, but changed the name to Stetsasonic for their debut album On Fire (1986). The reactions of the critics were mixed, but the successors Full Gear (1988) and Blood, Sweat & No Tears (1991) were celebrated in the reviews.

Full Gear contained the group's two best-known pieces, Talkin 'All That Jazz and Sally .

Talkin 'All That Jazz is based on the bassline of the jazz-funk piece Expansions (1974) by Lonnie Liston Smith & The Cosmic Echoes and a sample by jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd . In a self-referential way, the text defends this very way of creating something musically new out of set pieces of older music, against the then widespread criticism of samples as “theft”.

Soon after the release of Blood, Sweat & No Tears (1991), the group disintegrated. Prince Paul, who had already gained a very good reputation through the production of the debut album 3 Feet High And Rising by De La Soul , began a career as a producer; also Daddy O, who worked for Mary J. Blige and the Red Hot Chili Peppers , among others . Frukwan and Prince Paul both worked for the Gravediggaz .
