Steve Hirschi (* 18th September 1981 in Grosshöchstetten ) is a former Swiss ice hockey player who most of his career with HC Lugano in the Swiss National League A was active. The greatest success of his career was the Swiss championship with HC Lugano in 2006. With the Swiss national ice hockey team he took part in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .

Career

Steve Hirschi started his career as a hockey player in the youth of the SCL Tigers , for whose professional team he made his debut in the National League A in the 1998/99 season . After five years for Langnau in the NLA, the defender moved to their league rivals HC Lugano before the 2003/04 season . Hirschi has played for Lugano since then and became Swiss champion for the first time in his career in 2006 .

In February 2017, the HCL announced that the long-time captain of the “Bianconeri” would end his playing career at the end of the 2016/17 season in order to work as a coach in Lugano's youth department.

International

For Switzerland , Hirschi took part in the U18 Junior World Championship in 1999 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 2001 . He was also part of the Swiss squad at the 2002 , 2004 and 2007 World Championships and the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
