Steve Hochstadt
Steven Lawrence Hochstadt (born August 30, 1948 ) is an American historian .
Hochstadt is a professor of history at Illinois College in Jacksonville , Illinois . He has been on the faculty since 2006, prior to which he taught at Bates College , Maine for 27 years . His grandmother, a Jewish German who escaped the Holocaust by emigrating to Shanghai, aroused his interest in Jewish emigrants to Asia. He conducted interviews with over 100 former Shanghai residents who now live in the US and Europe . Building on his studies, he wrote numerous books about the Holocaust and in particular about the Jewish refugees in Asia. In addition, Hochstadt is a member of the Sino-Judaic Institute, an NGO with the aim of collaborative collaboration in cultural and historical areas between Chinese and Jews .
