Steven Dennis "Steve" Timmons (born November 29, 1958 in Newport Beach , California ) is a retired American volleyball and beach volleyball player . He was world champion and two-time Olympic champion .

Career

Steve Timmons began volleyball at Newport Harbor High School , then played at Orange Coast College, and finally at the University of Southern California . He played for the US national team at three consecutive Olympic Games and won one medal each: two golds ( 1984 in Los Angeles and 1988 in Seoul ) and one bronze ( 1992 in Barcelona ). He was also world cup winner in Japan in 1985 and world champion in France in 1986 as well as silver medalist at the Goodwill Games in Moscow. Timmons was one of the first players to successfully practice the backfield attack . From 1990 to 1992 Timmons also played for the Italian top club Il Messaggero Ravenna , with which he won the volleyball club world championship in 1991 and was Italian runner-up in 1992.

From 1987 to 1994 Steve Timmons also played beach volleyball successfully on the AVP Tour and the FIVB World Tour . The highlight here was the victory at the FIVB Open in Enoshima with his teammate from the national team Charles Kiraly .

In 1998 Steve Timmons was inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame.

Private

Steve Timmons has been married to actress Debbe Dunning for a second time since 1997 . The two have a daughter and a son. Before that, between 1990 and 1993 he was married to the sports business woman Jeanie Buss , who later appeared naked in Playboy, among other things .
