Steven De Waard (born May 5, 1991 in Brisbane ) is an Australian tennis player .

Career

De Waard mainly plays tournaments of the second and third class ITF Future Tour and ATP Challenger Tour . He has been playing professional tournaments since 2011 without first being able to position himself in the world rankings . It wasn't until the end of 2014 that he made it into the top 1000 in singles and doubles. While he remained at this level in singles, he made it into the top 300 in doubles at the end of 2015. In the following year, he was able to win seven double victories on the Future Tour and first successes (semifinals in Canberra and final defeat in Tampere ) on the Challenger Tour could increase by another 100 places.

After failing in the finals in Happey Valley and Burnie at the beginning of the year , he won his first title on the Challenger Tour in May 2017. In Todi he prevailed in the double final alongside his compatriot Ben McLachlan against the brothers Marin and Tomislav Draganja in three sets. Due to this success, he achieved his best placement in the world rankings in July 2017 with 124th place.
