Steven Franklin C. "Steve" Grotowski (born May 30, 1982 in London Borough of Wandsworth ) is a British beach volleyball player who also has US citizenship.

Career

Grotowski moved his family to Florida when he was ten . He began playing beach volleyball on the beach next to the house before taking part in tournaments for the first time at the age of 15. He also briefly played volleyball at the University of New Haven . Later he was active as a junior coach in the hall. Since 2002 he has played with changing partners on the US AVP tour. In 2007 he completed his first FIVB tournament at the Shanghai Open alongside Jody Gooding . In the same year he also competed with Gregg Weaver , who became his permanent partner in 2008. At the end of 2008, Grotowski / Weaver reached 17th place in four open tournaments in a row. In 2009, in addition to the Masters series, they also played their first Grand Slams and came in 33 and 41.

In 2011 Grotowski formed a new duo with John Garcia-Thompson . In their first year together, they achieved their best result with 17th place at the Shanghai Open. At the Grand Slam in the same place in 2012 they came in 25th place as well as at the Brasília Open. For the Olympic Games in London they were nominated by the British federation as the host's team. This made them the first British ever to compete in an Olympic beach volleyball tournament. In their three group games, however, they failed to win a set, so they were eliminated after the preliminary round.
