Christa Scheuer-Weyl (* 1941 in Munich ; † April 28, 2006 in Vienna ) was a German-Austrian publicist , journalist and translator .

Life

Christa Weyl was born in Munich in 1941. She studied in Paris from 1961 and after completing her studies first worked as a journalist and translator, then in Vienna. In connection with this she met her future husband, the former resistance fighter and journalist Georg Scheuer .

Since 1980 she has been working as an author on the subject of exile , with a focus on France . Her contributions have appeared in the Arbeiter-Zeitung , in the Wiener Tagebuch , in the quarterly publication "Mit der Ziehharmonika," or "Zwischenwelt", edited by Theodor Kramer Gesellschaft , and in the reference works "Lexicon of German-speaking Writers in Exile 1933 to 1945" (Freiburg 1995) and “Lexicon of Austrian Exile Literature” (Vienna 2000). She was the administrator of the literary estate of the Austrian writer Alice Penkala (birth name: Rosa Alice Krausz), on whose work and life she wrote numerous articles.

Christa Scheuer-Weyl was one of the co-founders of the “FrauenAG” of the Austrian Society for Exile Research. Through her detailed knowledge and her personal contacts with former resistance fighters, she was able to provide significant support for historical and biographical research on internationalist resistance in Austria and France. In 2002, she and Geneviève Hess translated the autobiography of her husband Georg Scheuer, who died in 1996, into French ( Seuls les fous n'ont pas peur ). Nur fools fear nothing (Vienna 1991 ).

Christa Scheuer-Weyl was a lifelong friend of the documentation archive of the Austrian resistance , to which she made parts of Georg Scheuer's estate available.

She died on April 28, 2006 in Vienna of complications from a serious heart condition and is buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery.
