Steven Jordheim

Steven Jordheim is an American saxophonist and music teacher.

Jordheim studied at Northwestern University and the University of North Dakota with Frederick Hemke and at the Center d'arts d'Orford in Quebec with Jean-Marie Londeix . He was winner of the Concours de Genève 1983 and the international competition of the Concert Artists Guild in New York in 1984.

After his Carnegie Hall debut in 1985, he gave concerts a. a. in Italy, China, Switzerland, France, Canada and Taiwan. Composers such as David Maslanka , Rodney Rogers , Leslie Bassett , William Albright , Javier Arau , Philippe Bodin , Michael Halstenson , Joanne Metcalf , Lucie Robert-Diessel and Kenneth Schaphorst composed works for him.

Jordheim has been teaching saxophone, chamber music, music education and instrumental pedagogy at the Lawrence University Music School since 1981 . In 2001 he received the University's Prize for Excellence in Teaching . In 1999 he was invited as Artist in Residence at the Xi'an Conservatory and solo saxophonist of the Lanzhou Orchestra in China.

Jordheim recorded David Maslanka's Song Book for alto saxophone and marimba and his Sonata for alto saxophone and piano as a soloist, and Rodney Rogers ' Two Views for saxophone ensemble, percussion, piano and double bass as conductor .
