Steven Roman

Steven Mark Roman (born before 1975) is an American mathematician who studies combinatorics .

Roman studied at the University of California, Los Angeles , with a bachelor's degree and at the University of Washington , where he received his doctorate in 1975 under Branko Grünbaum (On a problem of Zarankiewicz concerning matrices of zeros and ones). He was an instructor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , a lecturer at the University of California, Santa Barbara , an assistant professor at the University of South Florida and, from 1980 until his retirement in 1999, professor at California State University, Fullerton .

He is (with Gian-Carlo Rota ) one of the developers of the Umbral calculus .

Roman is the author of numerous textbooks in mathematics and programming.
