Steven Schipper

Steven Schipper is a Canadian director and theater director.

Schipper studied at McGill University , Bishop's University and the National Theater School of Canada . John Hirsch won him over as director of the Stratford Festival in 1984 and has been artistic director of the Manitoba Theater Center (MTC) since 1989 . Under his direction u. a. the world premiere of Maureen Hunter's play Atlantis (1995–96) and Mark Stein's Mating Dance of the Werewolf; and the Canadian premiere of Steve Martin's Picasso at the Lapin Agile . In 1995 he brought Keanu Reeves to the MTC for a performance of Hamlet. He also conceived and directed The History of Manitoba from the Beginning of Time to the Present in 45 Minutes , an award-winning piece performed at Manitoba's high schools. At the Winnipeg Jewish Theater , he directed the performance of the play Last Night of Ballyhoo in 2000 . In 2007 the University of Winnipeg awarded him an honorary doctorate .

Schipper is married to the actress Terri Cherniak .
