Pyles ( Greek Πυλές ( f. Pl. )) Is a village in the southwest of the Greek island of Karpathos .

location

Pyles is located in the southwest of the island a little more than 2 kilometers from the coast on the connecting road between the east and west coast. The village of Othos is 2 kilometers northeast, the city of Karpathos almost 8 kilometers east. Neighboring local communities are Mesochori and Volada in the north, Othos in the west and Arkasa in the south.

administration

Pyles was recognized as a rural community (Κοινότητα Πυλών Kinotita Pylon ) shortly after the Dodecanese joined Greece . In 1997 , seven other rural communities were amalgamated to form what was then the municipality of Karpathos, now the municipality of Karpathos . As a result of the administrative reform in 2010 , the former municipalities on the island were merged into the new municipality of Karpathos (Δήμος Καρπάθου Dimos Karpathou ). Since then, Pyles has had the status of a local community (Τοπική Κοινότητα).
