Natural lake that is dammed up by a dam |
The Stickle Tarn is a lake in the Lake District , Cumbria , England . The lake is in a cirque east of Pavey Ark and Harrison Stickle . The natural lake was further dammed by a dam in 1838 to provide water for the gunpowder mill in Elterwater and the mill at Millbeck. The water level of the lake has risen by about two meters due to the dam.
The Bright Beck forms the inflow of the lake at its north-east corner and the Stickle Ghyll is its outflow in the south-east.
The lake can be reached from the B5343 in the Great Langdale Valley via the Stickle Tarn Trail, developed and maintained by the National Trust .
