Stictopleurus abutilon is a bug from the family of glass wing bugs (Rhopalidae).

features

Like all species of the Rhopalini tribe, Stictopleurus abutilon is medium-sized and elongated, but unlike most species of the tribe, it is only slightly hairy. The animals reach a body length of 7.1 to 8.4 mm. The transverse bulge on the front of the pronotum is raised, broad and partly smooth, the puncturing of the pronotum is therefore interrupted. The transverse furrows of the pronotum form closed rings towards the outer edges. The tip of the scutellum is very broadly rounded.

The body is yellow-brown to brown. The pronotum shows no or only barely visible longitudinal stripes.

distribution and habitat

The distribution area of this bug extends from Europe in the east to the south of Siberia. In Europe the area of the species extends in a north-south direction from the south of Scandinavia to the Mediterranean area. Stictopleurus abutilon is not rare and sometimes common in Germany south of the low mountain range and in Austria. It is largely absent in the north-west German lowlands, but has been found there with increasing frequency in recent decades.

The species colonizes dry to moderately moist, open habitats and is often found on fallow land with rich vegetation. She lives in the herb layer here .

Way of life

Like all glass wing bugs, Stictopleurus abutilon is phytophagous . It sucks on various composite flowers (Asteraceae). The species overwinters as an imago and can be observed after the hibernation from the end of April. Mating was observed in May. Apparently only one generation is trained in northern Germany, newly hatched adults can be observed here from mid-July. In southern Central Europe, e.g. B. in the Czech Republic , two generations are formed.
