Foundation Dr. JE Brandenberger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dr. Every year since 1990, Jacques Edwin Brandenberger has honored outstanding Swiss personalities who have made a special contribution to humanitarian culture, social progress or raising living standards.

The foundation, based in Obwalden, bears the name of the Swiss chemist Jacques E. Brandenberger . He had made a name for himself as a chemist through various inventions, but above all through the invention of the transparent viscose film " cellophane ". The economic success of the cellophane formed the cornerstone of the considerable fortune that he bequeathed to his daughter Irma Marthe Brandenberger. She established the foundation on her will from her father's inheritance, which was entered in the commercial register of the Canton of Zurich after her death in 1986.

With 200,000 francs , this is one of the most highly endowed prizes in Switzerland and is awarded by the Board of Trustees at the request of a prize committee made up of renowned representatives from scientific, social and cultural bodies.
