To implement the purpose of the foundation, the foundation regularly organizes debate evenings and expert rounds. Representatives from politics, NGOs , business, science, as well as national and international organizations have dealt in recent years with topics such as European networks, energy storage technologies and final storage / acceptance. Urban Talks

The Urban Talks series is aimed specifically at young people up to the age of 30. In a casual setting, the participants discuss topics related to the energy industry and climate protection with a reference to urban reality in various panels: urban mobility (Urban Mobility Talks, 2016), urban energy supply (Urban Energy Talks, 2017), or whatever Individuals can do for climate protection (Urban Climate Talks, 2018).

Energy campus

Award winner Energy Campus 2017

Since 2011, the foundation has been holding an annual ideas competition for doctoral students on future topics in the field of energy supply. This is intended to promote the next generation of scientists. The originality of the scientific work, outstanding results, research and transfer performance and the quality of the presentation serve as criteria for assessing the submitted work. The topics of the ideas competitions so far were

  • in 2017: My city of tomorrow: What will the energy landscape of the future look like? ,
  • in 2016: Energy transition and climate protection: analog and digital ,
  • in 2015: How will climate protection work tomorrow? ,
  • in 2014: City 2.0 - How do we bring the energy transition into the city ,
  • in 2013: security of supply with renewable energies ,
  • in 2012: the future of renewables ,
  • in 2011: Future of Energy Supply - Energy of the Future: Sustainable Energy Systems for Europe .

Energy reporter

To the public debate about climate change to encourage and stimulate interest in the subject areas of climate protection and energy among younger audiences, the Foundation has launched a competition for students. As part of a stay abroad, they should deal with topics relating to renewable energies, climate protection, security of supply and energy efficiency and describe their findings in short videos or texts. The announcement is aimed at all students, regardless of course and semester.

Green Innovation and Investment Forum

Umwelttechnik BW and Baden-Württemberg: Connected eV invite students, innovators, investors, researchers and founders to present their latest “green” technologies. The Energy & Climate Protection Foundation awards a prize for the best “Green Tech Ideas” in the “Early Stage” and “Advanced Stage” categories.

Environmental projects

  • Berghulen solar park:

In order to show that energy generation from renewable energies and nature conservation can go well together, the foundation, together with the BUND local association Berghülen and the NABU Baden-Württemberg, developed measures for the Berghülen solar park that go beyond the legally prescribed compensatory measures under nature conservation law. So were z. B. Habitats created for sand lizards that were once native to the site. Nesting aids for bees and bats have been installed on the site, a strip of hedge with native vegetation has been created, the fences are permeable for hares and other small animals, and the solar panels are elevated so high that sheep can graze underneath.

  • Neckar black poplar:
Groundbreaking on April 14, 2015 in Lauffen am Neckar

The project to protect the black poplar (Populus nigra), which is threatened with extinction, was supervised by the working group for the conservation of the Neckar black poplar and carried out in several steps. After the identification and molecular genetic determination of the 140 existing old trees, the genetically pure specimens from the Neckar region, some of which only remained individual plants, were reared. The first plantings took place at the EnBW power plant locations in Obrigheim (Baden) and Mühlhausen an der Enz . At the end of the three-year project in Lauffen am Neckar , almost two hectares of floodplain forest was planted from Neckar black poplars on an area made available by EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG. The working group prepared the genetic examinations and made them available to the general public in a database.
