The Northwest German Foundation for Animal and Nature Conservation ( Stiftung NordWest Natur ) is a regional nature conservation foundation established in 1999 with headquarters in Bremen . Her main focus is nature conservation development and environmental education on the foundation's own areas. She looks after the nature reserves “ Borgfelder Wümmewiesen ” and “ Untere Wümme ” on behalf of the Bremen Senator for Environment, Building and Transport .

history

The foundation was established in 1999. Most of the foundation's assets in 2001 came from the legacy of the late Ottersberger Eva Bosselier. After WWF Germany withdrew further and further from its national work around 2005 and the project office for the large-scale nature conservation project "Borgfelder Wümmewiesen" in Bremen was in question, the foundation has been looking after the former WWF areas, the nature reserves "Borgfelder Wümmewiesen "and" Untere Wümme "on behalf of the Senator for Environment, Building and Transport. In the “Borgfelder Wümmewiesen” area, the NordWest Natur Foundation cooperates with WWF Germany, which is still the project sponsor of the major nature conservation project. She also works with the University of Bremen .

Tasks in the project area Borgfelder Wümmewiesen

The tasks of the foundation are set out in a supervision agreement with the Senator for Environment, Building and Transport Bremen. What is essential is the cooperation in agri-environmental programs and the implementation in the European NATURA 2000 area system. The foundation regulates the leasing of the WWF and BUND properties and monitors the contractual use, makes use agreements with the agricultural sector and regulates the protection goal-oriented water management and the implementation of the Water Framework Directive . The monitoring of protective provisions of the nature reserve ordinance is also part of the range of tasks. She carries out her own biotope maintenance measures with volunteers.

A strategic aspect of the work is the updating of the maintenance and development plan for the area. For the purpose of proof, the foundation documents the area management. It is involved in regional and supra-regional nature conservation cooperations and represents the project in associations and committees (including the water and soil association). In parallel to the ongoing care work, she commissions accompanying scientific examinations.

For environmental education, visitor information and public relations, she works on the "Erlebnisraum Natur" (Bremen) and offers its own excursions. She looks after the “Wümme” sponsorship group.
