The Isin II period is a period of two centuries in ancient oriental history . With him the Iron Age begins in Mesopotamia . He is by the predominance of in Isin local dynasty in about Babylonia. It is partly combined with the previous Kassite period and referred to as the Middle Babylonian period.
The political development of this time is a consequence of the previous epoch. Named after an incident of Elamite weakened Babylon was in constant border conflicts with Elam and neighboring Assyria involved. Under Tukulti-apil-ešarra I it fell temporarily to Assyria, before it regained its independence through Nebuchadnezzar I (Nabu-kudurri-usu I). It also got involved in domestic political issues in Assyria by helping Ninurta-tukulti-Aššur to the throne.
