Redistribute - Foundation for a world based on solidarity (spelling: redistribute! ) Was founded in 1986 in Berlin by Ulf Mann, the heir of the pharmaceutical company Dr. Gerhard Mann, founded. At that time, the foundation's capital was 30 million Deutschmarks . It promotes internationalism, cultural exchange, youth work, cooperation with the Global South and environmental protection.

structure

The foundation works with specialist working groups of volunteers. She employs two full-time employees who take care of application processing and asset management. The working groups decide on project funding and develop the funding criteria and working principles of the foundation.

Focus of work

The foundation does not sponsor individuals, only projects in whole or in part, including publications. There is no permanent institutional funding. The foundation buys land and real estate in order to make them available to alternative projects through long-term leases, and uses the rent to finance projects in developing countries . In 2001 the foundation bought the building of the “ Acud ” cultural center in Berlin-Kreuzberg for DM 900,000  and concluded a 50-year leasehold contract with Acud . The house was renovated and was able to remain as a “defining project” for central Berlin with a cinema, gallery, theater, club and jazz café. In the area of information, education and cultural work, which deals with the political and social situation in the Third World , primarily small, grassroots NGO projects are supported.

From the tax-free annual interest and lease income of the foundation, which amount to around 650,000 euros, around 250 projects were co-financed annually. Your stance on supporting projects in the Global South is formulated as follows in the preamble to the foundation's statutes:

"Development aid should not primarily satisfy hunger, but rather target the causes of hunger."

- Ulf Mann

The foundation cooperates with other sponsors nationwide. For example, together with the Federal Agency for Civic Education , the Amadeu Antonio Foundation and the self-taxation campaign “Re: Speech”, a media project from North Rhine-Westphalia of the Medical Refugee Aid Bochum e. V. With bread for the world and Misereor u. a. it co-finances FIAN Germany projects .
